Now that it’s technically fall, it’s time to mark your calendars with all of the best seasonal festivities around Boston. What better way to enjoy the weekend than to go on a stroll and enjoy the beautiful weather while checking out locally made arts and crafts, delighting in pumpkin spice flavored goodies, and enjoying live music! Here are six popular festivals coming up this season that you won’t want to miss:
What the Fluff?
Where: Union Square, Somerville
When: September 23, 2017
Come celebrate the invention of Fluff at Somerville’s annual What the Fluff? festival in Union Square. This fun-spirited and free fest is perfect for families with fluff themed games and activities that are fun for all ages!
Berklee BeanTown Jazz Festival
Where: Columbus Ave. to Burke St. (west of Massachusetts Ave.), Boston
When: September 30, 2017
The BeanTown Jazz Fest is a big, free block party with performances from world-class musicians, kid’s activities, an instrument “petting zoo” and lots of food vendors. Check out the performance schedule here.
HONK! Festival
Where: Somerville and Cambridge
When: October 6-8, 2017
HONK! Festival is a three-day fest that brings brass bands from all of the country to celebrate music, community, and activism. The festival begins on Friday night with a lantern parade, and ends on Sunday with another parade from Somerville to Harvard Square.
Boston Book Festival
Where: Back Bay, Boston
When: October 28, 2017
The Boston Book Festival is an annual event that includes a schedule of author talks, panels and a street fair to celebrate a culture of learning and ideas. There are always activities for both kids and adults such as costumed characters and cooking demos that make this festival both educational and fun for everybody!
Opening Our Doors Festival in Fenway
Where: 210 Massachusetts Ave., Boston
When: 10:00 AM – 4:00 PM October 9, 2017
Opening Our Doors has all kinds of family friendly activities including art-making, live music, salsa dancing, storytelling, walking tours, and food trucks. This day also offers free admission to several of Boston’s best museums, such as the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum, MassArt’s Bakalar and Paine Galleries, Wheelock College’s Towne Art Gallery, and The Mary Baker Eddy Library Mapparium.
Pumpkin float
Where: Frog Pond at Boston Common
When: 5:00 PM – 8:00 PM October 20, 2017
This Pumpkin Festival features floating pumpkins, a magician, kids’ activities, and music at Boston Common Frog Pond. Bring a hollow pumpkin under 8 inches in diameter.
