By definition, an esplanade is a wide open, green space. Starting in the next two weeks, this outdoor breathing room in busy Boston will be packed with activities for families just like yours. Summer on the Esplanade can be as structured or free-form as each family member would like.
Everyone is invited to run, walk, hop, skip, and jump along the 3 miles of pathways along the Boston side of the Charles River that make up the Esplanade. Want more? Health Family Fun considers all the ways to enjoy the Esplanade in the sunshine between now and September. Find the activities that are right for you and your family so that you can explore the Esplanade at your own pace.
The Esplanade offers FREE, organized activities for…
The whole family
Sunday Fun in the Park, coming up on June 16, kicks off the season with an afternoon full of activities for all ages with constant music, community sports games, even Broga (a fun yoga class designed for dads!).
The Healthy Fit & Fun series, starting July 10, offers adults a chance to come together outside on weekday mornings and evenings to exercise as a group. Free classes include Zumba, CrossFit, Sunset Yoga and much more!
A loop of the Esplanade makes the perfect 5k (3.1 miles) running course for beginners. Flat paths and stunning views of the river will make your training runs or walks fly by on this course.
Charles River Community Boating welcomes young sailors to join the club as junior members for only $1. This wonderful, reduced-cost option is open to children of families whose household income falls below $75,000.
Enjoying the Esplanade? Don’t forget that families like yours help keep the Esplanade beautiful and clean for everyone to enjoy. Consider volunteering with the Esplanade Association during drop-in Saturdays this summer and give back to your park.
